The California Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorneys’ Association (CWCDAA) 2017 Annual Winter Conference was a huge success, and Attorney Alan Wax of Wax & Wax, A Law Corporation was there as a keynote speaker. Each year, the CWCDAA brings together some of the sharpest minds in workers’ compensation law for a large, multiday conference. This year, Attorney Alan Wax co-presented the last session of the conference: Utilization Review; Independent Medical review & The Drug Formulary. On January 1st, 2018, legal requirements for Utilization Review will be updated, in some ways dramatically so. Mr. Wax’s seminar covered the critical aspects of these changes and also explored how they can be applied to case law, particularly in defense of workers’ compensation challenges filed by insurance companies or prompted by employers. Attorney Wax and co-presenter Ani Baghdassarian of Pearlman, Borska & Wax discussed implementing the drug formulary and why every workers’ compensation attorney in California needs to understand this topic back-to-front.
