This month’s California Applicants’ Attorneys Association Workers’ Compensation Newsletter presented a number of important subjects, ranging from news topics, events, informative pieces, and more. The newsletter opens with a piece titled Senator Steven Bradford: Aiming At the Racist Heart of Appointment, in which he highlights the racist undertones of the apportionment regime in California’s Workers’ Compensation system.
Hypertension, which affects nearly 35% of African Americans, is also the cause of 20% of deaths for this demographic as well. Section 1 of SB 617 states, “Notwithstanding any other law, including, but not limited to, Section 4663, heredity and genetics shall be excluded as bases of causation for purposes of determining the apportionment of permanent disability.” Senator Bradford seeks to fight against this injustice, and our firm supports him in the fullest.
